Common questions
Which regime is better for me?
If your deductions (HRA, home loan interest, 80C, 80D and NPS) are large, the old regime can still give lower tax. Otherwise the new regime usually wins. Enter your figures above and the calculator shows both.
Is income up to ₹12 lakh really tax-free?
Under the new regime, yes, for resident individuals whose income is taxed at normal slab rates. Salaried people get the ₹75,000 standard deduction on top, so salary up to ₹12.75 lakh pays no tax. Just above ₹12 lakh, marginal relief keeps the tax from jumping suddenly.
Does this calculator cover capital gains?
No. Capital gains on shares, mutual funds and property, and crypto gains, are taxed at special rates and do not get the ₹12 lakh rebate in the same way. For these, send us your statements and we will work out the exact tax.
Can I switch regimes every year?
Salaried people and those without business income can choose each year when filing the return. With business or professional income, switching back and forth is restricted.
Are these the rates for FY 2025-26 as well?
Yes. Budget 2026 made no change to slabs, the standard deduction or the rebate, so the same figures apply to FY 2025-26 and FY 2026-27.
