Quick answer
What income is taxed in India for an NRI?
Income earned or received in India, such as NRO interest, rent and capital gains on Indian assets, is taxable. Salary earned abroad and interest on NRE and FCNR deposits are not taxed in India while you are a non-resident.
Who we help

- NRIs whose bank or tenant deducted high TDS and who want a refund
- NRIs selling a house, flat or land in India
- People moving abroad this year, or returning to India, who need their residential status worked out

What we do
- Residential status: we work out whether you are a non-resident, resident, or "resident but not ordinarily resident" from your travel dates. The rules have exceptions for Indian citizens visiting India and for people leaving for jobs abroad, so the dates matter.
- ITR filing in ITR-2 or ITR-3, with refunds of excess TDS claimed.
- DTAA relief: India has tax treaties with most countries, including Singapore, the UAE, the US and the UK. With a Tax Residency Certificate from your country, treaty rates can lower your Indian tax. We guide you through the paperwork.
- Lower TDS certificates, so tenants, buyers or banks deduct less tax in the first place.
- Repatriation: the certificates your bank needs to send money from your NRO account abroad, prepared with our associate Chartered Accountant.

Common questions
Do I need to file an Indian return if TDS has already been deducted?
Filing is required if your Indian income is above the basic exemption limit. Even when it is not, filing is the only way to get back TDS that was deducted at a higher rate than your actual tax.
Can NRIs choose the new tax regime?
Yes. NRIs can choose between the old and new regimes, like residents. Some benefits, such as the rebate on special-rate income, work differently, so we compare both.
Do NRIs need Aadhaar to file?
No. Aadhaar is not compulsory for NRIs. You can e-verify your return through net banking, a demat account or other options.
Will my foreign salary be taxed in India?
Not if you are a non-resident and the salary is earned and received abroad. Your residential status decides this, so we check it first.
I live in Singapore. Do you handle DTAA cases?
Yes. We regularly handle India and Singapore DTAA cases, as well as clients in the Gulf, the US and the UK.
