Quick answer
Who needs to file an ITR, and by when?
You must file if your income is above the basic exemption limit, and filing is the only way to get a TDS refund. The due date is 31 July for ITR-1 and ITR-2 and 31 August for business income without an audit; a belated return can be filed until 31 December.
Who we file for
- Salaried people and pensioners
- Freelancers, consultants, doctors and other professionals
- Small business owners and shop owners
- People with rent, interest, dividends or capital gains and F&O income
- Crypto investors and traders
- NRIs with income in India
What we do
- Collect your documents (list below). Photos and PDFs on WhatsApp are fine.
- Check your AIS, TIS and Form 26AS, the department's own record of your income and TDS, so nothing is missed or reported differently.
- Compare the old and new tax regimes and use whichever gives you lower tax.
- Choose the right ITR form and prepare the return. You see a summary of income, tax and refund before we file.
- File and e-verify, then track the refund and handle any intimation from the department.
Which ITR form?
| Form | Usually for |
|---|---|
| ITR-1 | Residents with salary or pension, one house property and interest income, total income up to ₹50 lakh. Small long-term gains on listed shares or equity funds (up to ₹1.25 lakh) are now allowed. |
| ITR-2 | Capital gains, more than one house, foreign income or assets, NRIs, company directors and holders of unlisted shares |
| ITR-3 | Business or professional income, including F&O and intraday trading |
| ITR-4 | Residents using presumptive taxation for business or profession, within the limits |
Key dates
- 31 July: individuals filing ITR-1 or ITR-2 (salary, pension, house property, capital gains).
- 31 August: business and professional income without a tax audit (ITR-3 or ITR-4).
- 31 October: taxpayers who need a tax audit. For FY 2025-26 this was extended to 21 November 2026.
- 31 December: last date for a belated return. A late fee of up to ₹5,000 applies (₹1,000 if total income is up to ₹5 lakh).
- 31 March after the year ends: last date for a revised return to correct a mistake. A fee applies if you revise after 31 December.
- An updated return (ITR-U) can report income you missed, up to 4 years from the end of the assessment year, with additional tax. It cannot be used to lower your tax or claim a bigger refund.
New regime in brief. From FY 2025-26, most people with income up to ₹12 lakh pay no tax under the new regime because of the rebate (₹12.75 lakh for salaried people, after the ₹75,000 standard deduction). Income taxed at special rates, such as capital gains, does not get this benefit. We work out which regime is better for you.
New Income-tax Act. The Income-tax Act, 2025 applies from 1 April 2026 (tax year 2026-27 onwards). Returns for FY 2025-26 and earlier years still follow the 1961 Act. We handle both.

Common questions
Do I need an auditor to file my ITR?
Not by law. You can file it yourself on the e-filing portal. People come to an auditor or tax consultant when they have capital gains, business or foreign income, more than one employer, or a notice, because a mistake can mean a lower refund or a demand later. A formal tax audit is needed only for businesses and professionals above the audit limits, and that report is signed by a practising Chartered Accountant.
Which tax regime should I choose?
It depends on your deductions. If you claim large deductions such as HRA, home loan interest, 80C and 80D, the old regime can still be better. Otherwise the new regime usually wins. We calculate both and show you the numbers.
I missed 31 July. Can I still file?
Yes. You can file a belated return until 31 December, with a late fee. Some benefits, such as carrying forward certain losses, are lost when you file late. Use our tax calculator to see your tax under both regimes.
My income is below the taxable limit. Should I still file?
Filing is not always compulsory, but it is the only way to get a refund of TDS deducted from your income. It also helps with loans, visas and credit cards. In some cases, such as high deposits or high foreign travel spending, filing is required even with low income.
How do you get my AIS and Form 26AS?
You can share your e-filing login with us, or download the PDFs yourself and send them. Either way works.
My refund is less than I expected. What now?
The department may have adjusted something while processing your return. Send us the intimation and we will check it. See our income tax notice service.
